Networking & Social Events

  • SABER Buddies is a great way to connect with returning and new SABER attendees. Buddies groups are arranged by the Mentoring Committee and meet virtually before and during the conference.

  • DBER Scholars-in-Training welcome & social: Meet and connect with fellow trainees in biology education research. Look for the welcome event on Friday and social on Friday evening.

  • Special Interest Groups offer an opportunity to connect with other attendees who share your biology subdiscipline or interest area. Learn more about SABER’s SIGs at our website: saberbio.org/special-interest-groups. SIG meetings will be listed in the schedule.

  • SABER Bingo - This paper scavenger hunt is an excellent ice breaker! Submit your completed scavenger hunt for a chance to win a prize at the end of the conference.

Events are listed in the conference schedule

Speed Mentoring - Join as a Table Lead!

We are excited to be running a speed mentoring program at the in-person SABER Annual Meeting and would love to have you involved as a table lead.

The event will take place on Friday, July 10 from 5:20–6:30 PM. As a table lead, you would briefly introduce your area of expertise at the start of the program, then facilitate two 15-minute conversation rotations with small groups of attendees who sign up for your table. It is a low-lift, high-impact way to share what you know with people who are actively looking for guidance in your area.

We are looking for table leads across a range of topics — anything you have expertise in that other SABER attendees might benefit from hearing about. Some examples include navigating the academic job market in BER, postdoc opportunities, survey development, qualitative analytic methods, and critical theories, but we welcome any topic you think would resonate with this community.

If you are interested, please reach out to Ariel Chasen at achasen@utexas.edu with your proposed topic. We look forward to hearing what ideas our community comes up with!
