The BioFoundry: Glycoscience Resources, Education, And Training (https://research.uga.edu/news/uga-receives-18m-nsf-award-to-democratize-glycoscience/BioF:GREAT), a new NSF-funded initiative at the University of Georgia (UGA), seeks a postdoctoral associate specializing in education. The mission of BioF:GREAT is to increase awareness, interest, knowledge, and participation in carbohydrate science by developing new glycoscience research, technologies, and educational experiences across the tree of life. This position will involve collaborating with Dr. Erin Dolan and other BioF:GREAT scientists and educators, including faculty, staff, other postdocs, and graduate students, to design, implement, evaluate, and disseminate a suite of educational resources and experiences that bring glycoscience into mainstream biology. Educational resources and experiences to be collaboratively developed include introductory undergraduate lessons and modules, undergraduate and graduate course materials, and advanced training and coursework for practicing scientists, as well as educational activities that engage undergraduate and graduate students in developing their communication skills while building public awareness of glycoscience and its relevance to daily life and careers. The postdoctoral associate will be able to shape the development and refinement of these resources and lead education evaluation activities to make improvements over time and test effectiveness.

The postdoctoral associate will have opportunities to interact with a vibrant group of faculty, other postdoctoral associates, graduate and undergraduate researchers, and professional staff as part of the Complex Carbohydrate Research Center (CCRC), the Biology Education Research Group (BERG), and Scientists Engaged in Education Research (SEER) Center at University of Georgia, with an option to gain college-level teaching experience in a discipline of interest.

Candidates must have: (a) a Ph.D. in biochemistry or molecular biology or biology education, chemistry or chemistry education, or other relevant science or education discipline (e.g., neuroscience, microbiology, plant biology, educational psychology); (b) a record of peer-reviewed publication; (c) demonstrated interest in curriculum and instruction in biology and/or chemistry, instructional design, educational evaluation, and/or discipline-based education research; and (d) demonstrated capacity to manage projects, including collecting and analyzing data and disseminating results. Preferred qualifications include knowledge of theory and practices related to teaching, learning, and instructional design, experience collaborating with faculty to design and implement evidence-based curriculum and instructional strategies, experience with educational evaluation, familiarity with glycoscience, and capacity to work effectively in diverse, cross-rank, cross-disciplinary, and cross-institutional teams.

This position is full-time with a flexible start date as early as January 2025 and no later than September 2025 with the possibility of renewal for up to five years. Candidates should electronically submit a 2-page cover letter indicating their interest in and qualifications for the position, a curriculum vitae, and contact information for three professional references. The salary is $60,000 with associated benefits. For more information to and apply: https://www.ugajobsearch.com/postings/401608

Review of applications will begin December 1 and will continue until the position is filled. The University of Georgia is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
